Instructional Faculty Single Semester/Year Appointment and Reappointment Processes

Single semester/year appointments of lector- and lecturer-track faculty are authorized by the Teaching Resource Advisory Committee (TRAC).

Single semester/year appointments

Process for initially appointing instructional faculty to single semester or single year terms.

To appoint a lector- or lecturer-track faculty member to a single semester or single year term, submit requests to the relevant dean with a copy to fas.dean@yale.edu as outlined below.

Submit request via email

Academic unit staff send the following documents as a single PDF with the email subject "TRAC Appointment Dossier, [Candidate's Name]" to the relevant dean with a copy to fas.dean@yale.edu:

- Candidate's CV

- Candidate's cover letter, if available

- 2 letters of recommendation

- Any other relevant documents for review

TRAC review and offer letter

The Teaching Resource Advisory Committee (TRAC) will review the request. If approved, the relevant dean will consult with the academic unit chair on length of term, salary, and other conditions.

 

The FAS Dean's Office will send the offer letter to the candidate, with a copy to the academic unit chair and staff. To accept, the candidate must send a signed copy of the letter to the FAS Dean's Office at fas.dean@yale.edu. An electronic scan of the offer letter is sufficient.

Process initial appointment

Academic unit staff refer to the FAS chart of required documents, submit the listed materials to the Office of Faculty Administrative Services (OFAS) at faculty.admin@yale.edu, and process the hire in Workday.

 

Complete the onboarding process for the new faculty member once the hire is completed.

Academic unit staff send the following documents as a single PDF with the email subject "TRAC Reappointment Dossier, [Candidate's Name]" to the relevant dean with a copy to fas.dean@yale.edu:

 

- Brief rationale from the academic unit chair for the reappointment, including courses to be taught, how they fit into the curriculum, and any additional relevant information (past teaching performance, enrollments, etc.).

- Any other relevant documents for review
