Initial appointment as Professor in the Practice
Candidates internal to Yale in other faculty ranks may be promoted to Professor in the Practice
Initial appointments to Professor in the Practice require review by the relevant tenure and appointments committee (TAC) and approval of the Yale Corporation.

Initial appointment
Your academic unit chair will meet with you to explain the process for the review.
You will receive a materials request letter outlining what you will need to provide and when.
Academic unit staff will alert you when they have created your case in Interfolio.
You will receive a notification from Interfolio advising you to fill out an EEO form.
Upload all materials requested to Interfolio by the specified deadline.
Academic unit staff will inform you of any necessary edits.
External referees/evaluators will review your materials and provide letters, which will be reviewed (along with your materials) by eligible voting faculty in your academic unit and the relevant divisional tenure and appointments committee (TAC).
If the TAC approves the case, the appointment moves on to the Fellows of the Yale Corporation.
You will receive an offer letter from the FAS Dean's Office, outlining the term dates and other details of your appointment.
You must return a signed copy of the letter to the FAS Dean's Office at fas.dean@yale.edu. An electronic scan of the offer letter is sufficient.
Reappointment review for Professor in the Practice
Reappointment is possible in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
The reappointment review must be conducted no later than the penultimate year of your appointment.

Upload the listed materials to Interfolio by the specified deadline.
- a statement (not to exceed 500 words) indicating your interest in being reappointed and describing your professional accomplishments, activities, and goals over the term of your appointment
- an updated copy of your CV, professional resume, or biography
- any additional materials you would like us to take into account
Academic unit staff will inform you of any necessary edits.
The relevant divisional tenure and appointments committee (TAC) will review your materials and may advise further review (i.e., solicitation of referee/evaluator letters, classroom observations).
The TAC makes their recommendation for reappointment to the FAS Dean. All reappointments approved by TAC and the FAS Dean are voted on by the Fellow of the Yale Corporation.
Following approval by TAC and the FAS Dean, you will receive a reappointment letter outlining the term dates and other details of your reappointment.
