FAS Divisions

The departments and programs of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences are organized into three divisions: Humanities, Social Science, and Science.

Division of Humanities

The FAS's 20+ humanities units cover the range of human knowledge: from English to Classics; from History of Art to Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies; from the world's languages and literatures to History. In addition, several programs are cross-divisional, bridging Humanities and Social Science.

The divisional dean of the Humanities is Marc Robinson.

Division of Social Science

The FAS is home to seven social science departments: Anthropology, Economics, Linguistics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, and Statistics and Data Science. In addition, several programs are cross-divisional, bridging Social Science and Humanities.

The divisional dean of Social Science is Kenneth Scheve.

Division of Science

The FAS is home to three departments in the biological sciences--Ecology and Evolutionary Biology; Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry; and Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology--and five in the physical sciences--Astronomy, Chemistry, Earth and Planetary Sciences, Mathematics, and Physics.
