Ladder Faculty

Members of the FAS ladder faculty are appointed to ranks in which they hold tenure or from which they may be promoted to tenure. The tenured ladder ranks include Associate Professor with Tenure and Professor. The untenured ladder ranks include Assistant Professor and Associate Professor on Term. Lector-Track Faculty

Appointment to these ranks is reserved for instructional faculty members who are engaged in the teaching of languages. The Lector ranks include Lector, Senior Lector I, and Senior Lector II. Lector appointments do not come with the possibility of tenure. See section IV.I of the Yale Faculty Handbook for further details.

Lecturer-Track Faculty

Appointment to these ranks is reserved for instructional faculty members whose responsibilities include regular teaching. The lecturer ranks include Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, and Senior Lecturer II. Lecturer appointments do not come with the possibility of tenure. See section IV.I of the Yale Faculty Handbook for further details.

Professor in the Practice

Appointment to the rank of Professor in the Practice is reserved for distinguished practitioners who have eminence in their fields , sustained accomplishment, and sustained activity in their area of practice. These instructional faculty members will hold national or international reputations for their innovative and transformational contributions to their practice, through creative work, professional leadership, practice-centered publications, or other demonstrations of significant accomplishment. Research Faculty

Appointment to these ranks are available to persons holding the PhD or MD degree or having equivalent training. The research ranks include Senior Research Scientist/Scholar, Research Scientist/Scholar, Associate Research Scientist/Scholar. See section XVIII of the Yale Faculty Handbook for further details.
