The job advertisement must conform to the position approved by FRC (for ladder faculty searches) or TRAC (for instructional faculty searches), and must include the following:

  • Rank, title, anticipated start date
  • Description of the position including the targeted area(s) or field(s) of expertise desired and a form or synonym of "teach" and the expected area(s) of instruction
  • Educational requirements for the position. *Note: for greater flexibility in meeting Department of Labor requirements, we advise wording such as "must have met the requirements for a PhD or equivalent degree at time of hire in AREA or related field".
  • Application materials
    • Required: curriculum vitae (CV) and cover letter
    • A minimum of 3 confidential letters of recommendation are required to process the hire of assistant professor candidates. These may be requested up front or at a later stage in the process. Academic units that will request letters at a later stage should ask applicants to supply a list of 3 references with their contact information. For appointments to the tenure ranks, external evaluations are solicited as part of the tenure case review procedure using the Review, Promotion, and Tenure module in Interfolio.
    • Optional: additional materials such as writing samples, research statement, teaching statement, sample syllabi, etc. *Note: all required application materials specified in the advertisement must be documented for any candidate receiving an offer.
      • Per guidelines from the Provost's Office, as of April 11, 2025, no Yale school, department, or unit may require diversity statements.
  • Contact name, job title, and email address for applicant questions.
  • The date when application review will begin, which must be at least 30 days after the ad is posted. Recommended: "Review of applications will begin..." or "To ensure full consideration, please submit all materials by..."
  • Apply link from Interfolio. During the approval process, include dummy URL (e.g., http://apply.interfolio.com/xxxxx).
  • Information regarding the professional conduct review: "The final candidate, upon acceptance of a contingent offer of employment/faculty appointment, may be required to disclose whether they are, or have been, the subject of any disciplinary proceeding (investigation, hearing, etc.) at previous institutions or employers, and may also be subject to a background screening. Candidates who materially misrepresent information on their resume or other application materials are ineligible for hire/appointment. Final candidates may also be required to sign a release to allow Yale to solicit information regarding any substantiated conduct violations from current and/or past employers.”
  • Yale's Equal Opportunity and Nondiscrimination statement: "The University is committed to basing judgments concerning the admission, education, and employment of individuals upon their qualifications and abilities and seeks to attract to its faculty, staff, and student body qualified persons from a broad range of backgrounds and perspectives." "Additionally, in accordance with this Policy and as delineated by federal and Connecticut law, Yale does not discriminate in admissions, educational programs, or employment against any individual on account of that individual’s sex; sexual orientation; gender identity or expression; pregnancy, childbirth or related conditions; race; color; national or ethnic origin; religion; age; disability; protected veteran status, or other protected classes as set forth in federal and Connecticut law."
