Charles Brown, II
Charles D. Brown II joins Yale as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics. Professor Brown studies single-, few-, and many-body quantum physics by conducting quantum simulation experiments using ultracold atoms trapped in optical potentials. These experiments allow for the investigation of complex quantum systems for the purpose of understanding their ordered phases and dynamics. His recent experimental work, published in Science, has focused on understanding the role of topology in the energy band structure of a crystal, which is important for understanding exotic quantum properties of materials. He received his Ph.D. in Physics from Yale for his work on quantum optomechanics experiments with superfluid helium, and a B.S. with honors in Physics from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.
