Steven Wilkinson is the Dean of Yale's Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Nilekani Professor of India and South Asian Studies, and Professor of Political Science and International Affairs.

Steven Wilkinson is the author and editor of many books and articles on democracy and conflict in South Asia, including “Army and Nation: India’s Military and Democracy since Independence” (Harvard, 2015), "Patrons Clients and Policies" (Cambridge, 2007, with Herbert Kitschelt) and “Votes and Violence” (Cambridge, 2004), a recipient of the American Political Science Association’s best book award. He is a member of Yale’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) and an elected member of the Academy of Arts and Sciences. His previous leadership roles include serving as the chair of the Department of Political Science from 2014-19, as deputy chair of the FAS Faculty Senate from 2020-21, acting FAS Dean of Social Science from 2021-22, Vice Provost for Global Strategy (2022-24), and the Henry R. Luce Director at the Whitney and Betty MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies from 2019-25.
