Alexandra Apolloni is the Associate Dean, Strategic Initiatives and Communications. She oversees strategic projects, faculty development initiatives and programs, and high-level communications projects and initiatives for the FAS Dean's Office.
Alexandra first joined the FAS Dean’s Office in 2019 as a Project Specialist, overseeing the Scholars as Leaders; Scholars as Learners suite of programs. Prior to joining the FAS Dean’s Office staff, Alexandra was the Program and Research Developer at the UCLA Center for the Study of Women, where she oversaw programming, communication, and outreach; supported faculty research projects; and led faculty and student development initiatives. Previously, she served as a lecturer in the UCLA Musicology and Music Industry programs. Alexandra holds a PhD in Musicology from UCLA and an undergraduate degree in Music and Women’s Studies from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Canada. Alexandra served as Vice President of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music, US-Branch from 2019-2021, and she researches and writes about singers, voice, and gender in 20th century popular music. Her writing about music has appeared in numerous academic and non-academic publications and she is the author of the book Freedom Girls: Voicing Femininity in 1960s British Pop (Oxford University Press, 2021).
