Dear colleagues,
On behalf of the FAS Steering Committee, we are pleased to announce the introduction of updated timelines for ladder faculty reappointment/promotion reviews for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. In consultation with department chairs and staff, we have developed a new webpage to outline the new timelines and address frequently asked questions: https://fas.yale.edu/timelines.
Updates to the academic year timeline take effect immediately (i.e.: for reviews that are beginning now and will span 2024-25). Updates to the calendar year timeline will take effect in summer 2024 for reviews that begin then and span calendar year 2025.
Key Changes and Enhancements:
- Streamlined Materials Deadlines: We have carefully unified the timelines across ranks and FASTAP systems so that all candidates will submit their dossiers by either August 15 (for reviews that follow the academic year timeline) or February 15 (for reviews that follow the calendar year timeline). This adjustment aims to reduce administrative burdens related to keeping track of multiple timelines.
- Clearer Guidance: Our new webpage provides enhanced guidance about the relative timing of steps and who is responsible for completing them. We have incorporated several steps that are already part of our procedures but did not appear on previous timeline webpages.
- Improved Communication: Having standardized timelines will allow our office to send regular, clear reminders about upcoming deadlines to departments and candidates.
We made these changes to reduce confusion and bring clarity to a complicated set of processes. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the new timelines, please do not hesitate to reach out to Sarah Logan, Assistant Director of Faculty Affairs, at sarah.e.logan@yale.edu.
Best regards,
FAS Dean’s Office
