Updated application timeline for non-tenured ladder faculty research leaves and instructional faculty Professional Development leaves

Faculty members who submit a leave proposal before September 27, 2024, will receive a decision by January 2025. The FAS is instituting a change to the application timeline for non-tenured ladder and instructional faculty leaves. This change is based on feedback the FAS Dean’s Office has received since the rollout of the earlier course registration timeline, and will enable us to inform faculty members of leave decisions earlier in the academic year, aiding in departmental course planning.  

The new timeline and process description were communicated to non-tenured ladder and full-time instructional faculty on multiyear appointments in the following memos: 

  • Non-Tenured Faculty Leave Applications (FASTAP 2007) for AY2025-26
  • Non-Tenured Faculty Leave Applications (FASTAP 2016) for AY 2025-26
  • Professional Development Leave Applications for Instructional Faculty for AY2025-26

This academic year, faculty members who submit a leave proposal before September 27, 2024, will receive a decision by January 2025. Faculty members may still submit their proposals after that date; decisions on proposals submitted after September 27 will be communicated on a rolling basis. All proposals must be submitted by November 8, 2024. 

Beginning in academic year 2025-26, the deadline for all standard leave proposals will be in September. 

In addition, all approved leaves will be entered automatically into Workday using a new system managed by the Office of Faculty Administrative Services (OFAS). This system is already in place for tenured faculty leave requests. 

Key Dates:

  • September 27, 2024: Deadline for faculty members to submit their CV and leave proposal to department/program chair and staff for decisions by January 2025. 
  • October 31, 2024: Deadline for departments/programs to complete committee and chair review of proposals submitted by September 27, 2024. 
  • November 8, 2024: Final deadline for faculty members to submit any CV and leave proposal. 
  • November 29, 2024: Deadline for departments/programs to complete committee and chair review of proposals submitted by November 8, 2024.
