Yuan Hsiao

Yuan Hsiao joins the FAS as Assistant Professor of Sociology. Yuan’s major research explores the intersection of digital media, social networks, and collective action. His research brings a network perspective to understanding questions pertinent to a variety of social processes, such as how networks on social media contribute to political mobilization, how gang members engage in online and offline conflict relationships, how personal relationships affect the spread of religion, and how community networks affect health behavior. Prior to joining Yale, Yuan was an assistant professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Washington. Yuan received his PhD in Sociology and MS in Statistics from the University of Washington in 2021.
