Martina Dal Bello

Martina Dal Bello joins the FAS as Assistant Professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and the Microbial Sciences Institute. Dal Bello is a microbial community ecologist. She studies how microbes respond to and modify their environment, and how these feedback processes shape species interactions, assembly processes, and the overall function of microbial communities. Her research aims to develop an ecological toolbox for managing and manipulating natural microbiomes. Previously, Dal Bello was a research scientist and postdoctoral associate in the Department of Physics at MIT. She earned her PhD and master’s degree in Marine Biology and Ecology from the Università di Pisa, and her bachelor’s degree in Marine Environmental Sciences from the Università degli Studi di Genova, Italy.
