Presidential Visiting Fellows

The Presidential Visiting Fellows (PVF) program is a part of the Faculty Excellence and Development Initiative (FEDI). This competitive fellowship provides support from the Provost’s office (up to half the individual’s salary, with the other half supplied by the host school) for approximately ten visiting faculty located across Yale each year.

These Presidential Visiting Fellows will be exceptional scholars and practitioners who contribute to inclusive excellence. Deans or their designates apply for funding by nominating distinguished scholars who would enhance the excellence, inclusivity, and/or diversity of the faculty and the curriculum.

The Faculty of Arts and Sciences has hosted several PVFs every year since the beginning of the program. Faculty wishing to submit a nomination should consult with their department chair in order to confirm that the nominee would fit well in the broader strategic plan for diversity within that program unit.

Once the nominating faculty and chair have consulted, they should submit their PVF proposal to fas.dean@yale.edu with PVF in the subject line. Proposals are due by mid-February of every academic year, but can be submitted at any time for consideration. All proposals should include

  • a brief description of  how the nominee would contribute to inclusive excellence at Yale
  • a CV
  • a salary estimate*
  • a short description of any teaching or service expectations the program unit has for this nominee

*Connecticut state law prohibits potential employers from requesting a salary history. Employers can request from potential employees a salary expectation.
