Departmental Diversity and Faculty Development

The FAS Dean and the FAS Dean of Diversity and Faculty Development encourage program units to engage the subjects of equity and inclusion on a regular basis. In particular we recommend common readings, perhaps derived from our library, to create a common ground for conversation.

Such discussions may lead to planning events for ongoing departmental development. Chairs or directors of graduate studies are welcome to submit short descriptive proposals with a brief budget for support to bring speakers, organize colloquia, or offer additional support for faculty and graduate students in your unit or among multiple units. Chairs or directors of graduate studies should send requests directly to with Diversity and Faculty Development Request in the subject line. Successful requests will identify clearly in their email proposals how the planned event(s) will improve the culture of equity and inclusion in the FAS.
