Dear colleagues,
As next week’s break day approaches (March 24), we write once more to remind you of the importance of respecting these days as much-needed respites for our students (and ourselves).
Three break days remain this term. Please observe them: do not schedule any class meetings (including make-up sessions), exams (including at-home exams), or other assignments on the scheduled break days, and through the following morning. In addition, please do not add make-up classes or sections to compensate for the break days; this would be equivalent to adding instruction time beyond what is scheduled for the school term.
In short: The break days should be treated as if they were part of a normal spring break.
Students have reported that some faculty members are not observing the break days. If you have previously scheduled meetings, exams, or assignments on break days, please do not schedule any on the remaining three break days this spring. If you have observed the break days, you have our thanks.
The remaining break days and post-break days are:
- March 24 and 25 (Wednesday (break day) / Thursday (post-break day))
- April 8 and 9 (Thursday (break day) / Friday (post break-day))
- April 23 (Friday (break day))
