Dear FAS colleagues,
As we begin a new semester, I write with a note of welcome and thanks.
I am delighted to formally welcome three new ladder faculty members to the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Ian Abraham, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science; Hussein Fancy, Associate Professor of History; and Tianyu Zhu, Assistant Professor of Chemistry have officially joined the ladder faculty as of January 1, 2022.
They are joined by three new members of the full-time multi-year instructional faculty. Welcome to Ximena López Carrillo, Lecturer in Ethnicity, Race, and Migration; Jane Lynch, Lecturer and Associate Research Scientist in Anthropology; and Joshua Moyer, Lecturer in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, who joined the instructional faculty in full-time, multi-year roles as of January 1, 2022.
These colleagues join the 32 new ladder and 20 full-time multi-year instructional faculty members who became part of the FAS community this fall. In these early days of the term, I also wish to share my gratitude for the work of FAS department and program chairs, both those who are continuing and those who are starting anew. To all faculty who have taken on responsibility for leadership and mentorship this year, whether formally or informally, profound thanks.
Finally, I invite you to share your good news with us. Last week, I shared news of some of the many honors received by members of our community in recent months. In addition, as you may have noticed, we also recently redesigned the FAS website to allow us to highlight the stories of FAS achievements, our cross-disciplinary connections, and our impact at Yale and beyond. In order to tell these stories, we need to hear your stories: we invite you to share news of faculty and staff achievements. You can email these to fas.dean@yale.edu or submit them using our CAS-protected online form.
