COVID-19 contingency planning listening sessions (April 23, 2020)

[Summary: This message announces a series of listening sessions for faculty who wish to offer input to the university-wide COVID-19 contingency planning committees.]

To: FAS Faculty (ladder, research, and instructional)
CC: FAS Steering; FAS Dean’s Office; FAS Lead Administrators, Operations Managers, and Chairs’ Assistants

Dear FAS Faculty Members,

As outlined in the message sent on April 20, the president and provost have appointed a set of committees composed of faculty and staff from across the university to engage in contingency planning for the next academic year. These committees have been charged with thinking about issues of academic continuity, research continuity, creative and artistic practice continuity, operations continuity, public health, and emergency policy.

A number of us serving in leadership positions in the FAS are among those who have been asked to participate in these committees. We are eager for faculty input. Over the next week, we will be holding a series of listening sessions to make sure that we have the chance to hear your concerns, suggestions and ideas. If you would like to participate, please feel free to attend whichever session(s) best fits your schedule. (While each of us is serving only on a single subcommittee, we will be sharing feedback with one another at the end of next week, so your suggestions will be passed on to the relevant body.)

Listening sessions will take place at the following times:

  • Monday, April 27, 10-11am
    • Host: Larry Gladney, Dean of Diversity and Faculty Development in the FAS (Subcommittee on Research in the Natural Sciences and Engineering)
    • Join via Zoom: https://yale.zoom.us/s/97249707987
  • Monday, April 27, 1-2pm
  • Tuesday, April 28, 9-10am
  • Tuesday, April 28, 12-1pm
  • Wednesday, April 29, 3-4pm:
    • Host: Jeff Brock, Dean of SEAS and FAS Dean of Science (Subcommittee on Research in the Natural Sciences and Engineering)

  • Thursday, April 30, 9-10am
  • Friday, May 1, 11am-12pm

You may click on the relevant Zoom link to participate in the session.

To reiterate: Participation in these sessions is optional. Please feel free to attend whichever session(s) best fits your schedule. While each of us is serving only on a single subcommittee, we will be sharing feedback with one another at the end of next week, so your suggestions will be passed on to the relevant body.

We also welcome suggestions by email. These can be sent to contingency.planning@yale.edu.

Thank you in advance for your thoughtful feedback.

Stay safe, stay well,

Tamar
