Zoltán Szabó appointed the Saden Professor of Philosophy

Zoltán Szabó, newly named as the John S. Saden Professor of Philosophy, conducts research in the philosophy of language and metaphysics.

Among Szabó’s current areas of interest are the semantics of modality, tense and aspect, the relationship between lexical and ontological categories, and the nature of context. He also teaches graduate courses in early modern philosophy, the philosophy of mathematics, and the philosophy of mind.

Szabó earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Eötvös Loránd University (Budapest) and his doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He began his academic career at the Sage School of Philosophy at Cornell University, where he was also a member of the Field of Cognitive Studies. In 2006, he joined the Yale faculty as a professor of philosophy and of linguistics.

Szabó’s research has been widely published, he is co-series editor of “Studies in Linguistics and Philosophy,” and serves as associate editor of the Journal of Semantics. He has been an invited lecturer at universities and for professional organizations throughout Europe and the United States.
