Stephen Pitti reappointed as head of Ezra Stiles College

Professor Stephen Pitti has been reappointed as head of Ezra Stiles College, President Peter Salovey and Yale College Dean Marvin Chun announced.

Most heads of colleges serve for one or two five-year terms. Pitti, who is marking the 10^th year of his term, will serve another two years in that post.

“The extension recognizes the energy and excellence that Professor Pitti has brought to his leadership positions around campus, particularly his role as the founding director of the Center for the Study of Race, Indigeneity, and Transnational Migration,” said Salovey and Chun in an email to the Stiles community. “In establishing the center, in 2016, Professor Pitti has created a university-wide resource supporting research and teaching; connected our community with academic resources in new and innovative ways; and promoted collaborations among members of the Yale community and beyond.”

Salovey and Chun noted that the professor accepted the demands of the directorship without stepping down as head of Stiles “or diminishing his dedication and commitment to either community.  Still, he wishes to do more for Stiles, and we support him with this two-year extension.”

Pitti has earned “the overwhelmingly positive support of his community” thanks to the “culture and deep sense of connection created by Professor Pitti, together with the associate head, Professor Alicia Schmidt Camacho,” said Salovey and Chun.

A search for a new head of Ezra Stiles College will begin in Pitti’s final year, 2019-2020.
