Professor Moira Fradinger to receive prestigious Berlin Prize

Moira Fradinger, associate professor of comparative literature at Yale, will receive the highly competitive Berlin Prize from the American Academy in Berlin. Her inclusion in the fall 2019 class of fellows was announced on May 7.

Fradinger will receive a scholarship to spend a semester at the academy’s lakeside Hans Arnhold Center in Berlin-Wannsee. The Berlin Prize is designed to give scholars from across the United States a chance to delve deeply into academic or artistic projects of interest, without the need to worry about daily obligations, while being surrounded by world-class scholars, writers, composers, and artists. 

The award recognizes Fradinger’s pioneering work exploring the transformative legal reforms that occurred in Argentina during 2012. Fradinger has examined the cultural and artistic movement within which that political moment occurred. During that time, the role of gender identity, sexual rights, democracy, and female reproductive rights became the focus of the Argentinian national conversation. Fradinger will spend her time in Germany studying how the debates that emerged there have contributed to the global discourse on these topics.
