DiversiTeas series to spur conversations about diversity in the sciences

A grassroots effort by Yale science faculty and students to increase conversations about diversity and to improve the climate within STEM fields has led to the formation of DiversiTeas — a speaker series with presentations, workshops, and panel discussions to take place on campus over the next two months.  

The inaugural speaker, Sheila Jaswal, is a professor of chemistry and a faculty advocate for a student-led movement  at Amherst College to create a more inclusive environment. Jaswal will be joined by Amherst and Yale students on Friday, April 8, at 7 p.m. for a workshop for all interested faculty and students at La Casa, 301 Crown.

The series continues on April 16 at 2 pm with a presentation at Levinson Auditorium by Thomas Hocker and Jeff Hobbs, two Yale graduates and roommates of Robert Peace.  Hobbs is the author of a best-selling biography of Peace’s life spanning his childhood in Newark, his time at Yale as a Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry major, and ultimately his untimely death.  All events are free and open to the public.
