“Joel brings to his new position extensive experience at Yale: a decade as dean of Morse College; more than 10 years teaching courses in the American studies and English departments; eight years as secretary of the Yale College Teaching and Learning Committee; and three years as head of the Yale Summer Session residential colleges,” said Shenker. “In this way, Joel has been a year-round presence on campus as a dean and teacher, as unfailing in his support of his students as he is generous in his availability to his colleagues.

“His new role will allow him to bring his extensive professional skills and warm personal style to the Office of Academic and Educational Affairs, collaborating with me and my staff in our work with the residential college deans, the Office of the University Registrar, and, at times, individual students and faculty,” he added.

Eileen Quinn, who has served in the part-time director role for four years, will leave the position this summer. “I thank Eileen abundantly for all her good work in general and her exceptional assistance to me in particular during this time,” said Schenker. “She goes on to a retirement that is well-earned, even as that does not make it any easier to see her go.

The shift in the position from part-time to full-time is made in preparation for the opening of Benjamin Franklin and Pauli Murray colleges.
