Requesting Leave for Academic Year 2026–27

This message outlines the process and deadlines for tenured ladder faculty to request leave for academic year 2026–27 or full calendar year 2027.

Dear colleagues,

As communicated last year, the deadline for faculty leave requests has been moved to assist with academic unit course planning. This year, the deadline for faculty to submit their leave requests for academic year 2026–27, or full-year leaves for calendar year 2027, is Friday, September 26, 2025. 

Leave requests must be submitted using the online leave request form in OnBase. Instructions and links to the form are available online on the Office of Faculty Administrative Services (OFAS) website. 

Faculty members on phased retirement must also use this form to indicate in which term, or terms, work will be reduced. 

University policies on leaves of absence are described in detail in the Yale Faculty Handbook sections IV.L and XX. Please note that as of July 1, 2024, faculty who take the full-year Senior Faculty Fellowship (after six years of teaching without a leave) now receive full salary for the duration of the leave.
