J. Siguru Wahutu

j. Siguru Wahutu joins the FAS as Assistant Professor of Sociology and as a Fellow at the MacMillan Center of International and Area Studies. Additionally, he is a Fellow at the Center for the Study of African Societies and Economies at Harvard University. His research interests include the effects of ethnicity and culture on media representations of human rights violations, global and transnational news flows, postcolonial land claims, and the political economy of international media, with a regional emphasis on postcolonial Africa. He is the author of In the Shadow of the Global North: Journalism in Postcolonial Africa (Columbia University Press, 2025). Prior to joining Yale, Wahutu was an assistant professor in the Department of Media, Culture, and Communication at New York University. Wahutu received his PhD in Sociology from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.
