Athulya Aravind

Athulya Aravind joins Yale as Associate Professor of Linguistics. Her research examines how knowledge of language emerges and grows during the first years of life. She is particularly interested in how an infant breaks into language, the developmental steps that lead to an adult-like state, and the ways learning and maturation figure into this attainment. Current work in her lab investigates these questions through behavioral experiments with toddlers and children. Her work has been published in leading journals across the cognitive sciences, including Psychological Science, Linguistic Inquiry, and Linguistics & Philosophy, and has been funded by the National Science Foundation. Before joining Yale, she was an Associate Professor at MIT. She received her PhD in Linguistics from MIT and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Harvard Lab for Developmental Sciences.
