Max Lewis

Max Lewis joins the FAS as Lecturer in Political Science. His main research interests are in moral psychology, normative ethics, metaethics, AI ethics, and epistemology. He is currently working on a book about agency and intimacy which develops an account of the intimate reactive attitudes (e.g., feeling hurt and feeling touched). He has additional projects on the use of AI in mediating intimate relationships, the nature of friendship, and the nature and normativity of gratitude and praise. His work has appeared in Analysis, Philosophical Studies, Philosophical Issues, Canadian Journal of Philosophy, Erkenntnis, Synthese, Journal of Ethics and Social Philosophy, Journal of Applied Philosophy, and Ethical Theory & Moral Practice. He received his PhD in Philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania in 2020, a master’s in philosophy from Brandeis University, and a master’s from Harvard Divinity School.
