Faculty Activity Report Process - Ladder Faculty (November 20, 2017)

Monday, November 20, 2017

Dear Colleagues,

Now is the season to submit your annual Faculty Activity Report (FAR) and CV for the 2017 calendar year. The deadline to submit your materials is January 17, 2018.

To be considered for a merit increase, you must submit an up-to-date FAR and CV. (Faculty members who have submitted materials during the current academic year for reappointment, tenure, or promotion are still expected to submit an FAR.)

These materials are essential for department chairs’ salary recommendations and for discussion of raises by the FAS Steering Committee.

Submission process through Workday

Beginning this year, FAS ladder and multi-year instructional faculty will be submitting their FARs through Workday (please see attached instructions or visit here). You will receive a request in your Workday Inbox to upload your FAR and your current CV, which can be accessed by logging into https://www.myworkday.com/yale and clicking on the “Inbox” icon.

FAR content

In your FAR (typically not more than 500 words), please identify your activities and accomplishments for the calendar year 2017 by listing or describing them in the attached form (FAR Response Form_LadderFaculty2017). Some of the information for the annual activity report—your appointment history, courses taught (with enrollments), leave history, certain University committees, and sponsored research—comes directly from our records. This information, together with your curriculum vitae and narrative statement, will be available to your department chair(s) and to the FAS Dean’s Office to guide the annual review process.

Detailed guidance

  • When completing the “noteworthy accomplishments” section, please make sure that you highlight those aspects of teaching, research, and service from calendar year 2017 that represent your major achievements of that year.
  • You may also wish to describe activities that may not be reflected in our system-generated records or are not readily apparent in your curriculum vitae. This may include details on mentoring of colleagues (faculty and post-doctoral fellows); student advising and mentoring; research and publications in process; guest lectures and conferences within and outside Yale; and service to the University, your profession, and your community.
  • Publications that have a copyright date and/or publication date of 2017 should be included in your FAR. If a scholarly piece was made available electronically by a journal or a publisher in 2017 before it was scheduled to appear in print (e.g., “e-pub ahead of print”), you may list it on the 2017 FAR. However, a scholarly accomplishment should be highlighted in only one year’s FAR.
  • Works that have not been published in their final form electronically or in print (e.g., a book manuscript accepted by a publisher but with the book not yet publicly available) will be recognized in the year in which they are copyrighted and/or published.

Making changes to the FAR

If you wish to make changes to the FAR or CV (prior to the deadline) you can delete the uploaded version and upload a revised one directly in Workday. Please refer to the FAR instructions to make any changes.

Questions and concerns

Our aim is to make this process as simple as possible for faculty, while providing essential information for recommendations by chairs and deliberations by FAS Steering. Nicole Gilmore (nicole.gilmore@yale.edu) is available to provide administrative support in case of any questions.

Yours,
Tamar
