Coaching for Success

Coaching for Success provides FAS faculty with professional coaching support to help them achieve a targeted ambition related to their professional work at Yale.

Coaching may be requested either to improve certain skills or to learn new skills that require focused support to cultivate.

Over 100 FAS faculty members have taken part in Coaching for Success since the program’s inception in 2018. Coaching for Success has supported faculty seeking writing coaching; guidance on sustaining creative practices; tools for designing better research presentations; skills for communicating to broad public audiences; strategies for balancing academic, research, and teaching responsibilities; leadership or administrative skills; and support contending with questions of gender, race, and equity. Other faculty endeavors supported by Coaching for Success include but are not limited to:

  • Balancing administrative and academic responsibilities in light of new leadership roles
  • Effectively managing a laboratory or working group
  • Goal-setting and research program planning
  • Developing leadership skills in conflict resolution, communication, etc.
  • Overcoming roadblocks in writing and research

We encourage applicants to think broadly and creatively about how the coaching might support their endeavors. Successful applicants will clearly articulate how coaching will support their professional work at Yale. Those selected for the program will be paired with a coach with relevant experience and expertise.

Applications from faculty who have not already received coaching support through SAL2 will receive highest priority.

Eligibility

Applications welcome from:

  • any ladder faculty member with a primary or fully joint appointment in an FAS department or program, or
  • any instructional (non-ladder) faculty member with a primary or fully joint benefits-eligible multi-year non-visiting appointment in an FAS department or program or the MacMillan Center. 

Applications from faculty who have not already received coaching support through SAL2 will receive highest priority.

Application Process

To apply for Coaching for Success, please submit an application via this webform. Requests will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
