Brett Smith

Lecturer in Mathematics

Brett Smith received his Ph.D. from Wesleyan University in 2015. After Wesleyan, he spent three years as a Helmsley Postdoctoral Teaching Scholar at Yale. As a postdoc, he collaborated with the Yale Center for Teaching and Learning and Housatonic Community College to implement active learning in a variety of introductory mathematics courses. He also developed a prototype video game designed to help students prepare for Calculus. This semester, Smith is coordinating MATH 115: “Calculus of Functions of One Variable,” where he will design and implement new pre-class explorations to prepare students to engage in classroom activities and discussions. In the spring, he is teaching a section of MATH 120: “Calculus of Functions of Several Variables.”
