We decided to live in North Haven in part because of recommendations about the public schools. Our daughters were in 2nd grade and 5th grade when we moved here. They attended Ridge Road Elementary School, which offers traditional classrooms and “integrated day” (ID) classrooms. The ID classrooms are mixed grades—2nd and 3rd graders are together and 4th and 5th grade together—and they follow a project-based curriculum. The ID classrooms have worked out really well for our girls. They’ve learned a lot from their projects and the projects of their classmates. The North Haven middle school and high school also have great facilities. The middle school is new (built in 2016) and there is a lot going on in terms of extra-curricular activities. My older daughter had a very easy transition there in part, I think, because of the preparation she received in the ID classrooms. So far, we’ve been very pleased with the public schools in North Haven. I should say that I also like that from where we’re at in North Haven, I can commute by bus (20 minutes) or bicycle (40 minutes) to Yale.”
