Application for senior projects that require January access to campus (November 5, 2020)

Summary: This message informs FAS faculty of a Yale College deadline that may affect your senior advisees. Senior undergraduates who are seeking access to campus during January in order to work on senior essay projects will need the signature of their advisor in order to apply for such access; these applications are due on November 9.

Dear FAS faculty,

Below you will find a copy of a message sent earlier this week to Yale College undergraduates in their senior year. It describes a process for requesting authorization to return to campus in January by those who cannot complete their senior projects without access to on-campus resources during that time.

Students requesting permission to return in January are required to provide a research plan approved by their senior project adviser. If you are advising any senior projects, please be aware that students may be in touch regarding this matter.

With thanks,

Tamar

Subject: Application for senior projects that require January access to campus

Dear seniors,

This winter break will be longer than usual, and I know that some of you would like more time on campus to pursue your senior essay projects. You may apply for an exception to do research on campus in January using this form, which is due November 9.

Exceptions will be granted to seniors enrolled to graduate in May, 2021, whose senior research projects cannot be completed without the additional time on campus, and who have approval from their senior project adviser.

Only a limited number of undergraduate students can be hosted on campus because of winter break reductions in the level of staffing and resources necessary to keep the community safe. Exceptions will therefore be granted only for the month of January.

You are encouraged to pursue your research remotely as much as possible.  If you are working with collections, you can make good use of the library’s excellent online, scan and delivery services.

Sincerely,

Marvin Chun
