Department Chairs meet for January Retreat

February 20, 2017

Last month, the FAS Dean’s Office brought together FAS Departmental Chairs from across the disciplines and geography of our campus. Each with a trove of experience and an accomplished academic career, the Chairs met with one another for roundtable discussion on a number of topics relevant to the future success of our faculty.

In addition, faculty administrators of the FAS raised particular questions on the new FAS Tenure and Appointments Policy (FASTAP ’16) as well as the nuanced challenges Chairs face in their daily roles. Presentations were given by Amy Hungerford and Kathryn Lofton (Dean of Humanities, and Deputy Dean for Diversity and Faculty Development, respectively), Alan Gerber (Dean of Social Sciences) and Dean Tamar Gendler herself, each with subsequent break-out sessions for individual input.

We look forward to continuing in our efforts to help all our faculty thrive, and tapping the invaluable insights of our Chairs, who possess an intimate understanding of our campus and professors.
