On March 17th, Dean Tamar Gendler of the FAS delivered a presentation on the liberal arts at the India International Center, hosted by Ashoka University. Entitled “Liberal Arts in the 21st Century: Modern Questions, Ancient Answers,” Dean Gendler’s lecture discussed the work of five ancient philosophers from Greece and Rome, and how their insights remain relevant to questions we ask some 2,000 years later.
How is human flourishing possible? To resolve this profound question, Dean Gendler consults the ingenious experiments of modern cognitive science and pairs them with philosophical texts— a unique perspective made popular through her Open Yale Course, Philosophy and the Science of Human Nature.
