Colleagues:

You are receiving this message because you had a final exam for Fall 2021 that was originally scheduled to take place between December 19-22, 2021. We are writing to share details on the makeup exam schedule, recommendations for administering make-up exams, make-up exam proctoring, and grading.

Makeup exam schedule

The week of January 18 through January 24 will be used exclusively for make-up (ABX) exams. ABX exams will be rescheduled at their original starting times (9:00 AM, 2:00 PM, and 7:00 PM) on the following dates:

  • Exams originally scheduled to take place on Sunday, December 19 will take place on Tuesday, January 18.
  • Exams originally scheduled to take place on Monday, December 20 will take place on Wednesday, January 19.
  • Exams originally scheduled to take place on Tuesday, December 21 will take place on Thursday, January 20.
  • Exams originally scheduled to take place on Wednesday, December 22 will take place on Friday, January 21.

Administering makeup exams

Makeup exams will need to be administered remotely. We encourage instructors to consider offering open-book rather than closed-book exams to prevent academic dishonesty during remote exams.  Further guidance on administering remote examinations is available from the Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning.

Proctoring during the makeup exam period

If you require proctors in addition to your Teaching Fellows to administer your makeup exam and you have not already requested proctors, please make this request by filling out the form available here by January 17.

If you need your TFs to proctor and/or grade exams, please inform them as soon as possible.  In order to ensure that they are compensated for this work, you will need to provide the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences with the names of any TFs who proctor and/or grade exams by completing the form available here. Please do so by January 25.

Grading for Fall 2021 exams originally scheduled for December 19-22

If your exam was scheduled for December 19-22, you received a memo on January 10, 2022, outlining steps that you may be required to take to submit your grades. We encourage you to review that message.  The ABX make-up grade deadline is February 7, 2022.

Thank you for adapting your examination plans: the change to the examination schedule was disruptive for many, and we are grateful for your efforts to accommodate our students.

Best wishes,

Tamar, Marvin, and Lynn
